About Ms. Carmona
My name is Alyssa Carmona and I am delighted to be your child's 8th grade Social Studies teacher this year! Before we embark on this wonderful educational journey together, I wanted to tell you a little about myself as I have already learned so much about your children!
I am born and raised in South Texas. I moved to Austin in 2005 after graduating at UT-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. I started my career working at Austin High School in the DELTA lab for student credit recovery. It is there where I dove into my passion as an educator. After 2 wonderful years at Austin High, I was offered a position at Mendez MS as a 7th grade Social Studies teacher. This marked my appreciation of history studies. The following year, I was offered a position to teach 8th grade Social Studies STAAR content. This is where I fell in LOVE with American History. At this point of my career, I have found what truly makes me happy. Which is to teach American History in an engaging environment. This will be my 3rd year teaching 8th grade and teaching it over every year just makes my job more fun everyday!!
I spent my summers traveling to all parts of the United States to keep my curiosity of what I teach. For example, I visited my sister in grad school at Boston Massachusetts. That is where I went to all the historical sites that lead up to the American Revolution. Amazing experience to walk the Freedom Trail and see historical markers of our history!
